With the rise of lightweight sports, outdoor activities are transitioning from niche hobbies to a popular movement. Among them, camping is the hottest trend. From picnic mats in parks to campsites far from the city, "going outdoors" has become the most chill lifestyle choice nowadays.

We hope that the campsite is not just targeted at the younger generation, but also serves as a healing journey and adventure for people of all ages and backgrounds, providing children with natural fun and giving families warm memories with the Non-traditional Playground.

 

 "Long imprisoned, now we return to nature."

For three years of the pandemic, people have been confined to their homes.

Desperate for a brief escape, they long for a corner of the world where they can breathe freely and run wild in the mountains and rivers.

 

In Yandang Mountain, Leqing, this idea becomes a reality.

Let's start the story from a pine cone in the forest.

Chapter 01 
Encountering the Enchanted Forest.

"Planting" a Pinecone House(Non-traditional Playground).

In the enchanted forest, a giant pinecone falls in the campsite. As a traveling squirrel family passes through Leqing, they are drawn to the pinecone and the forest, deciding to settle there.

 

On the untouched mountain rocks,Non-traditional Playground

stands a playground created by the squirrel family - Pinecone Tribe.

It supports the campsite canopy, exuding both wildness and refinement.

A long corridor links the tall and low Pinecone Houses(Non-traditional Playground),

Creating a continuous path for a forest exploration journey.

Children roam through the tribe like little squirrels,

Running, jumping, climbing, and exploring.

The path to the squirrel house seems to have "numerous obstacles".

Rope nets, tree branches, wooden planks, wooden stakes...

These are not deliberate challenges for the visiting little guests.

"Nature is like a blank canvas, where children can freely express themselves and reconstruct cultural fantasies. Nature also requires careful observation and wholehearted perception to stimulate children's creativity."

Research has found that when children play in environments dominated by natural elements, they engage in more imaginative play. It's as if they are reading an endless storybook, immersing themselves in it and experiencing a sense of wonder.

This project is based on the spatial formation of "thematic imagery + corridor-style", creating scenes with a strong thematic identity to establish a coherent and engaging pathway. It aims to achieve a storyliving paradise experience and become an immersive three-dimensional storybook for play in the Non-traditional Playground.

 

During playtime, we often hear these little questions:

"Why do squirrels like pinecones?"

"Why can squirrels climb so high?"

"Why do beetles have two horns?"

Each question is like a map leading to the treasures of nature, guiding children into the wild realms of imagination.

During playtime, we encourage children to independently observe, perceive, and explore the answers to these questions. We believe that curiosity and imagination are the best guides, and this is the essence of playing in nature and Non-traditional Playground.

We explore the relationship between nature, children, and families, creating from a child-friendly perspective that is one meter high. Our goal is to build family destinations that are warmer and more inviting.

Today, there is a global trend of returning to nature, and children in cities have more opportunities to connect with the natural world. 

We hope that children can explore the hidden secrets of nature in these magical natural playgrounds, and experience moments of pure joy and happiness, reaching out to a wider and more expansive world in the Non-traditional Playground.
